Swell-induced flexural vibrations of a thickening ice shelf over a shoaling seabed

چکیده

A solution method is developed for a linear model of ice shelf flexural vibrations in response to ocean waves, which the thickness and seabed beneath vary over distance, shelf/sub–ice-shelf cavity are connected open ocean. The combines decomposition displacement profile at prescribed frequency motion into mode shapes free vibrations, finite-element water non-local operator connect An investigation conducted effects thickening, shoaling grounding-line conditions on time-harmonic induced by regular incident waves swell regime. Furthermore, results given irregular superposing responses, ocean-to-ice-shelf transfer functions derived. findings add evidence that shelves experience appreciable swell, thickening can have considerable influence predictions how respond waves.

Internal solitary waves of elevation advancing on a shoaling shelf

[1] A sequence of three internal solitary waves of elevation were observed propagating shoreward along a near-bottom density interface over Oregon’s continental shelf. These waves are highly turbulent and coincide with enhanced optical backscatter, consistent with increased suspended sediments in the bottom boundary layer. Nonlinear solitary wave solutions are employed to estimate wave speeds a...

Normal modes of a coupled ice-shelf/sub-ice-shelf cavity system

Ice shelves and ice tongues are dynamically coupled to their cavities. Here we compute normal modes (eigenfrequencies and eigenfunctions) of this coupled system using a thin-plate approximation for the ice shelf and potential water flow in the ice-shelf cavity. Our results show that normal modes depend not only on the ice-shelf parameters (length, thickness, Young’s modulus, etc.) but also on t...

Ice Shelf Water plume flow beneath FilchnerRonne Ice Shelf, Antarctica

[1] A two-dimensional plume model is used to study the interaction between FilchnerRonne Ice Shelf, Antarctica and its underlying ocean cavity. Ice Shelf Water (ISW) plumes are initiated by the freshwater released from a melting ice shelf and, if they rise, may become supercooled and deposit marine ice due to the pressure increase in the in situ freezing temperature. The aim of this modeling st...

Ers – Envisat Tandem Data over Sea and Shelf Ice

ERS – ENVISAT Tandem (EET) data are SAR data pairs acquired by the ERS-2 and ENVISAT ASAR instruments from approximately the same orbits within 28 minutes. During two dedicated campaigns in 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 ESA specifically acquired EET pairs with baselines suited for cross-interferometry (CInSAR). At perpendicular baselines of about 2km the frequency difference and baseline effects on t...
